This patch makes hoods work. That is, a helmet is protected by a hooded cloak in the same way as body armour is protected by any sort of cloak. The patch is against nethack version 3.4.1, though it can be applied to the 3.4.2 or 3.4.3 trees, with minor offsets.
A more detailed (read `Spoiler-ridden') description is in the README.
This stops the game from interrupting your movements to tell you what piles of interesting tat are on the space you've just stepped on. After applying this patch, the "pilesize" option sets the upper limit of how many items are worthy of their own separate dialog box.
Purists should note that this patch is not a pure interface patch, and makes the game marginally less dangerous, should your character be blind and feeling around with their bare hands.
